Little Boxes

...on a hillside. It was a bad thing, then. Now I kind of have a dream of living in a commune of little boxes on a hillside. Fortunately for me, someone is traveling that path already, so I can see that it works.

"I am supplying little houses for a Buddhist compound (also programmers), which might be a model for other communities."

Model, indeed. Someday perhaps I will find like-minded individuals who want to do something like this with me. (And yes, I would need a separate shed for music, unless the "main house" could keep that sort of thing.) (Oh man! Solar powered music studio. I wants it!)

Tiny Houses: The Boat

I haven't given much thought to it, not being a big fan of open water and the stuff that lives in it, but fortunately someone has!

The Essentials of Living Aboard a Boat * Living Aboard

"Almost universally, liveaboards seem to agree that no one should subject himself to living in a boat smaller than 30 feet (this may be the only thing that liveaboards can agree on). ... When you think about how large a boat you should acquire, it is best to at least heed the sentiments of my friend and trusted boat technician Chris Birch, who advises liveaboards to acquire the smallest boat they possibly can fit in, and take the money saved, which is significant, and invest in a landside facility for storage."

If you don't have a tiny house of your own, but want to wear your love of tiny houses on your sleeve, or, er, around your neck, check out JDavisStudio on Etsy. I just got one so I can carry a little tiny house around close to my heart.

Hi Tiny_houses!

Long time no see.

Did you know that Tumbleweed has a flickr account?

Neither did I. Get a load of these beauties, inside and out.

Yurt Anyone?

I was looking for yurt, you know, the portable structures used by Mongols and such, for camping purposes. What I found was several sites for companies that make yurts for actual modern living in. I am confounded by a yurt with a modern kitchen.

Truckers & Mobile Tiny Homes

This weekend I was at the major truck stop town of Breezewood, PA on the turnpike when I looked up and saw an advertisement for a deluxe truck cab which was a very comfortable-looking living space. I resolved to learn more about truck life when I got home! I haven't made too much headway on the subjects of actual truckers (haven't tried very hard yet) but I did turn up some neat stuff in my googling having to do with converted trucks and mobile living spaces.

The reputed (but inaccurate) Garbage Truck Camper:

Another converted truck camper:

Here are some pictures of the Freightliner Century Class rig:

There are a slew of trucker blogs I have seen in my searches but don't have time to check them out here at work!

Whilst surfing, I found plans for the Jeff Milstein bolt-together house (which some of you might remember from Tiny Tiny Houses), and thought this community might be interested.

Apartment Therapy website

A friend just pointed me to Apartment Therapy. Lots of innovative ideas for small spaces! I love the "living walls" in this post.
